A REDDITCH rocker has set up a website for music fans to champion local musicians and get them community support.
Lynne Andrews has always has a passion for rock music since it burst onto the scene in her youth, but unfortunately her immediate family and friends didn’t share her interest.
She said: “I felt I needed to share my passion with like-minded folk and experience that buzz now and then, if only for a few events a year.”
In September 2018 Lynne attended the Morton Stanley Music Festival for the first time on her own.
The following month she also attended the John Bonham A Celebration festival in Redditch.
She then decided to set up a Facebook group for older local rock fans originally named ‘OLD Redditch Rockers’.
Lynne added: “Old Redditch Rockers was slow to take off as most groups usually are, but then rapidly became popular with young folk too, so I omitted the word old."
"As we progressed, sharing our favourite YouTube music, memories and photos, the main problem was that folk didn’t know where to look for local live music gigs and so that led me to building the Redditch Rockers website to complement the Facebook group."
“Of course, Covid greatly effected socialising and many bands split up, gig venues, events and festivals were cancelled, and the website was of little use.”
However with life slowly getting back to normal Lynne decided to relaunch the website to encompass the growing music scene and incorporate different genres too.
“The website was re-launched, updated and re-designed last month to include all types of entertainment listings plus advertising, eateries, pubs, theatre around the old Redditch Church Green area.”
